Daddy's Girl

For as long as I can remember, I've been a Daddy's Girl. Yes, my mother and I are unspeakably close, but there's something very special about a girl's bond with her dad. I have a favorite picture of me as a toddler standing on the kitchen counter and leaning over to kiss my daddy, and I'm no different than any girl that dreams of her daddy walking her down the aisle. Dad and I share a common bond over laughter, and Mom, good sport that she is, is often the butt of out "bonding." But few things crack me up like catching my dad's eye from across the room and knowing that we're both racing for the perfect punch line.

With this in mind, a lyric in a hymn caught my attention at church this Sunday:

When we stand as God's great family, And we meet the Father's gaze,
And we share in His eternal joy, As we join in ceaseless praise.

I found this imagery particularly comforting and exciting, the idea of catching the Father's eye across the throne room... of being perfectly in sync with the Father, sharing in His eternal joy.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.
1 John 3:1
